Blues, Funk, Rock and Soul with the School of Rock
Explore and learn about the music and artists of blues, funk, rock, and soul. School of Rock instructor and bass guitarist Sly Geralds will be taking you through the history and pedigree of this great American music with both live examples and though story telling.
Sly Geralds is a singer/songwriter who has traveled the world with some of the most influential musical artists of our time. He has spent the last several years recording and sharing the stage with musical giants such as Maceo Parker, Al Green, Levon Helm, Richie Havens Cyndi Lauper, and Bob Dylan to name a few. He has put his many years of experience and musical stylings to seamlessly blend elements of blues, funk, soul and rock. Sly’s music gives a nod to the masters of roots music while still maintaining a contemporary feel. His time spent in New Orleans has influenced his writing, as has living in New York City for most of his life. Sly throws down an infectious groove driven by his thunderous bass and shows his talent on the Chapman Stick.
Complete with demos, this topic will be presented with a different focus in three distinct sessions this fall at the library (on 9/6, 10/4, and 11/1). Great for Tweens, Teens & Adults!
