Flags: An Introduction to Vexillology

Flags: An Introduction to Vexillology

Flags, pennants, guidons and roundels have been used throughout history to represent countries, military units and ships at sea. Vexillology is the study of flags. Solve a flag puzzle published in a national magazine, do some flag trivia, then learn the history of flags, pennants, guidons and roundels. View the flags of all the countries of the world, some not-so-countries and some cities. Learn about the fascinating career of vexillology, which is exploding due to computer gaming. We will design a flag online using flag design software. Kids get to draw or make a flag of a country and then using general principle of vexillology, make their own personal flag to rally their forces to defeat armies of trolls, goblins and zombies.

Presenters: Nick and Louise Hauser, Nick is a former technology executive and diplomat and Louise has been on TV (Jeopardy and Who Wants to be a Millionaire). *Sponsored by Friends of the Island Library*
